About Mishkat

Mishkat is a quiet, editorial companion for Salah. Prayer times are calculated on your device by the open-source adhan library — no server call, no account, no login. A hairline countdown to the next prayer, a Qibla dial that uses your device compass, a Hijri and Gregorian calendar, and 21 bundled adhan recordings that play from local storage. Bilingual English–Arabic and French–Arabic layouts are set in Fraunces (English), IBM Plex Sans Arabic (Arabic), and IBM Plex Mono for the countdown and clock times. Location is optional; if you decline, Mishkat falls back to Makkah so the app is still useful.

01Prayer times computed offline by the open-source adhan library. An optional online source (api.aladhan.com) is available and off by default.

0721 bundled adhan recordings — 20 named reciters plus 3 Haramain (Makkah, Madinah, Al-Aqsa) and 2 Fajr adhans with tathwib. All Sunni; no Shia variant. Files play from local storage, no streaming, no network.
08Local notifications only. No push, no FCM, no APNs remote endpoint. Android uses per-adhan notification channels so each reciter keeps its own sound.
09iOS widgets: WidgetKit / SwiftUI in Small, Medium, and Large sizes, plus a separate animated Prayer Ring widget in Small. iOS 17.0+.

How Mishkat handles your data

Plain language. No sleight of hand.

What we collect on our servers

Nothing. Mishkat has no server. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no telemetry. No personal information, contact details, or usage events leave your device to any Mishkat-controlled system.

Location

Mishkat asks for foreground location so it can compute prayer times for where you are. Coordinates are used on your device to run the calculation and are stored locally under your Mishkat settings. Coordinates are not sent to any Mishkat server.

Two operating-system calls involve your coordinates or a place name: (1) when your device automatically resolves your city name from coordinates, it uses the built-in map service — Apple on iOS, Google on Android — which is subject to Apple's or Google's privacy policy; (2) if you turn on the optional "online prayer times" toggle in Settings (off by default), your latitude and longitude are sent over HTTPS to api.aladhan.com to fetch times from that service. If you leave that toggle off, no coordinates leave your device for prayer-time calculation.

If you decline location permission, Mishkat falls back to Makkah so the app is still useful.

Mishkat does not use background location, background fetch, motion data, HealthKit, Bluetooth, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, or photos.

Manual city search

The manual location screen sends the text you type (not your coordinates) to nominatim.openstreetmap.org to look up matching places. That request is subject to OpenStreetMap's usage policy.

Notifications

Adhan and pre-prayer reminders are scheduled locally on your device by the operating system. There is no push server. No FCM or APNs remote endpoint is involved.

Qibla

The Qibla direction is computed on your device using your GPS position and the coordinates of the Kaaba. The rotating dial reads your compass heading through the OS (which combines magnetometer, accelerometer, and GPS). Compass data is not stored and never leaves your device.

Adhan audio

The app ships 21 adhan audio files bundled inside the app — no streaming, no network. The "Classic" adhan is licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0 (Jarih, via Wikimedia Commons). Regional and Fajr recordings are Public Domain material from Internet Archive. The 20 named-reciter recordings were sourced from open-source adhan projects (0xzer0x/athany, DBChoco/Muezzin, meypod/al-azan) whose software licenses do not cover the underlying recordings — copyright in each recording remains with the reciter and publisher. If you are a rights holder and want a recording removed, please write to support@aurabytestudios.online and we will remove it. Mishkat ships Sunni recordings only.

What stays on your device

Your coordinates, city name, chosen calculation method, madhab, per-prayer adjustments, notification preferences, adhan choice per prayer, language, theme, and recent locations are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all of this data.

Children

Mishkat is rated 4+ / Everyone and contains no age-restricted content. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
